Trumpeter models of China has announced the July 2017 release of the the German Navy Aircraft Carrier DKM Peter Strasser in 1/350 scale.
This is the second of the Graf Zeppelin class of two German aircraft carriers ordered during WWII.

According to Wikipedia:

The contract to build the ship was awarded to the Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft in Kiel in 1938, with a planned launch date on 1 July 1940. Work on Flugzeugträger B began in 1938 but was halted on 19 September 1939 because, now that Germany was at war with Great Britain and France, priority had shifted to U-Boat construction. The hull, completed only up to the armored deck, sat rusting on its slipway until 28 February 1940, when Admiral Raeder ordered her broken up and scrapped. Scrapping was completed four months later.
The Kriegsmarine never named a vessel before it was launched, so it was only given the designation "B" ("A" was Graf Zeppelin's designation before launch). Had it been completed, this aircraft carrier could have been named Peter Strasser in honor of the World War I leader of the naval airships.

The kit consists of over 840 parts, including two-piece hull, anchor chain, and photo-etched parts. Also includes four 1/350 scale aircraft and decal sets for both ship and aircraft.

The Peter Strasser is listed by Hobbylink Japan at https://hlj.com/product/TRP05628 and can be preordered for ¥13,440 (about US$113.00).

You're right about the boxtop painting - at least no one could really criticize the accuracy of your Peter Strasser build. I like the H-Class battleship in the background too!

You're right Tim-hadn't picked up on that! The ultimate 'what if' Maybe Trumpy will announce an H-Class next... And we'll probably see that before the Nelson class in 1/350... Or even before a RN flat top from them. Yer, I think I might be a bit miffed

Okay, an A for effort. But there are many other subjects that should be kitted before these make believe models.

Hi Guys, I joined so I could comment on this post. I have previously spent many, many years building 1/35 Military, of which, there is a lot of "What-If" and they are very well received as are some of the very odd camo patterns some modelers use. I have been building 1/350 for some 6 years now and don't mind the Graf Zeppelin or Peter Strasser. I am sure your aware Trumpeter have had out for some time the HMS Ark Royal in 1/350. I don't want to appear rude, I am just saying what a great time it is to have so much variety in all scales that we can now build in. Thanks & regards, Peter H Sydney, AU

Hi Peter! Welcome to MSW! I couldn't agree more: it's a great time to be a modeller! So many topics to chose from and so many aftermarket products to enhance our builds... The best bit is the internet where we get to have a good whinge about kit companies and their choice of subject for their next release

Definitely interesting choice for release. Comes with 4 x 1/350 aircraft, folding wing 109's or 190's to add to the what-ifferry? Cheers, D

Shock news for those modelling Graf Zeppelin and Peter Strasser......................................... The Messerschmitt Bf.109T (T for trager/carrier) was NOT fitted with folding wings. Although the carriers were never completed the Bf.109T was built in a small series. Although wing fold was examined at the design stage, its was NOT used on the aircraft that were constructed, no was it proposed for the production version. I am not a Bf109 expert but this issue has been examined in micro detail by the Luftwaffe forums. The Junkers Ju.87C DID have wing fold however. I'm hoping for a 1/200 Graf Zeppelin so I can install rc and sail it. Do the experts think such a release is likely ? Paul
